Rapid bird flu test launched by HealthTrackRx

Rapid bird flu test launched by HealthTrackRx

By Jamie Martin

In a step toward stronger emergency preparedness, HealthTrackRx has developed a fast-response PCR test for Avian Influenza A (H5N1), also known as bird flu. This project was done in partnership with the CDC to ensure a quick and effective response in case of an outbreak.

The H5N1 virus has recently infected many birds and animals across the country. More worryingly, it has also spread to humans, leading to serious illness and even death. These events highlight the risk of the virus crossing species and the importance of immediate action.

Health experts say testing is key to stopping the virus early. This new test allows health workers to find cases faster and help stop the spread before it grows.

“This isn’t just about developing a test—it’s about being ready to respond at scale,” said Dr. Jay Reddy, Chief Scientific Officer at HealthTrackRx. “Our national footprint and next-morning result model uniquely positions us to support public health response when timing matters most. We’re working with the CDC to ensure this test is ready to deploy should the need arise.”

HealthTrackRx was also quick to act during the COVID-19 pandemic and was among the first labs to receive special authorization to test. Using that knowledge, they quickly created this new H5N1 test and added it to their emergency systems.

“The H5N1 assay reflects our commitment to staying ahead of emerging threats,” said Dr. Vijay Singh, Vice President of R&D. “We have the research capability, the operational capacity, and the established logistics model to help mitigate future outbreaks with speed and precision.”

Working closely with the CDC, HealthTrackRx will continue to monitor infections and assist in public health decisions. Their efforts aim to protect people and animals from future health threats.
