SCC Meeting on Kansas Environment

By Scout Nelson

The State Conservation Commission (SCC) of Kansas will conduct a special virtual meeting on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. This meeting is an essential platform for discussing the conservation and management of the state’s natural resources.

The SCC comprises five elected commissioners along with four appointed members. These members represent significant institutions including the Kansas State University Agriculture Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service, the Kansas Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service.

The primary focus of the SCC is to collaborate with the Kansas Department of Agriculture's Division of Conservation. This collaboration aims to develop, implement, and maintain effective policies and programs. These initiatives support local governments and individuals in conserving Kansas’s renewable resources, thereby ensuring sustainable environmental stewardship.

The agenda for the upcoming meeting will cover a range of topics crucial for enhancing the state’s environmental policies and conservation efforts. Members of the public are encouraged to participate in this open forum to gain insights into conservation strategies and voice their opinions on pertinent issues.

For those interested in attending the virtual meeting, details can be accessed by contacting the KDA Division of Conservation at kda.doc@ks.gov or by calling 785-564-6620. Additionally, individuals requiring special accommodation are advised to make their needs known at least 24 hours before the meeting to ensure appropriate arrangements can be made.

This meeting not only serves as a critical update on ongoing conservation efforts but also as an opportunity for public engagement in shaping the future of Kansas’s natural resource management. It is an open call to all stakeholders interested in the sustainability and preservation of the state’s agricultural and natural landscapes.
