Kansas Beef Powers Sports Success

Kansas Beef Powers Sports Success

By Scout Nelson

In Kansas, the importance of nutrition in sports is gaining recognition thanks to the efforts of the Kansas Beef Council (KBC). The council has adopted and promoted the Sports Nutrition Game Plan, a program that underscores the role of beef as a vital protein source in athletes' diets.

This initiative, originally developed by the Texas Beef Council, is proving instrumental in supporting student-athletes across the state.

Since its introduction in Kansas less than two years ago, the program has successfully engaged over 100 coaches, athletic directors, and trainers. These key influencers receive weekly updates on sports nutrition, which they share with both athletes and parents, integrating essential dietary advice into their training regimes and team culture.

The KBC has not only targeted high schools but has also reached out through professional conferences. Notable presentations by KBC Director of Nutrition Abby Heidari, RD, at the Kansas Athletic Trainers’ Society Conference and the Kansas High School Activities Association Conference have highlighted the significance of nutrition in sports performance.

Additionally, the council expanded its outreach by engaging with football and baseball coaches at various coaching conferences in early 2025, ensuring that more teams benefit from these valuable resources.

The program’s website, www.sportsnutritiongameplan.com, serves as a hub for this crucial information, offering coaches, trainers, and parents easy access to tools and knowledge that can make a tangible difference in their athletes’ performance and well-being.

Through the Sports Nutrition Game Plan, Kansas beef producers are not only helping athletes achieve peak performance but also reinforcing the essential role of beef in sports nutrition. This initiative demonstrates the powerful impact of integrating diet and sports, encouraging a holistic approach to athlete development in Kansas and beyond.
