Dan Moser Named Interim Agriculture Dean at K State

By Scout Nelson

Kansas State University has announced that Dan Moser, professor and associate dean of academic programs in the College of Agriculture, will serve as interim dean starting July 6. He takes over from Ernie Minton, who is moving to a new role supporting the Agriculture Innovation Initiative through philanthropic efforts.

Moser’s appointment was praised by Jesse Perez Mendez, the university’s provost and executive vice president, who highlighted Moser’s leadership and collaborative skills. Moser will be responsible for leading faculty and staff in delivering quality teaching, research, and community engagement.

“Dr. Moser’s track record of strong leadership and university wide collaboration will serve the college well during this time of transition,” said Jesse Perez Mendez, provost and executive vice president. “I thank Dr. Moser for his willingness to serve and continue to advance the college forward.”

Moser joined the college’s leadership team in April 2020. Before that, he was president of Angus Genetics, Inc., and director of performance programs at the American Angus Association, where he led a 300% increase in genomic testing and expanded educational initiatives.

“I am honored to serve the College of Agriculture in this new role,” said Moser. “Our college is currently advancing the educational and career aspirations of more 2,600 students, boasting $88 million in annual research expenditures and serving the entire state population through critical outreach. We have a tremendous group of faculty, staff, students and alumni who care deeply about the success of our college and university. I look forward to seeing what we can achieve together."

He also served as a faculty member in K-State’s Department of Animal Sciences and Industry from 1999 to 2014 and held previous academic positions at the University of Nebraska and the University of Georgia.

K-State’s College of Agriculture is considered one of the top agricultural schools in the country. As the college prepares to relaunch the search for a permanent dean in fall 2025, Moser will help maintain progress and continuity in leadership. The next dean will focus on growing enrollment, strengthening partnerships, and advancing the college’s strategic goals under the Next-Gen K-State plan.
