Kansas City Hosts 2025 Angus Convention

By Scout Nelson

The 2025 Angus Convention welcomed nearly 1,000 members of the American Angus Association and beef industry professionals to Kansas City from October 31 to November 2. The event featured educational tours, leadership meetings, industry showcases, and award recognitions.

Mark McCully, CEO of the American Angus Association, opened the convention emphasizing the strengths of the Angus breed. “We’re here today having an Angus breed that can check so many marks off that job description: calving ease, problem-free cows, maternal strength, growth, efficiency, carcass merit and carcass weight,” he said.

During the 142nd Annual Convention of Delegates, association members elected new leadership and reappointed board members. Jim Brinkley was elected president and chairman of the board, with Darrell Stevenson as vice president. Brinkley praised the long-standing commitment of members, stating, “Our Association is much the same. For more than 142 years, this membership has built something durable by doing the work, day in and day out.”

Educational opportunities included Angus University and Learning Lounge sessions, offering practical knowledge on data submission, marketing strategies, and genetic improvement. Four general sessions, including Market Advantage and Research Advantage, covered market outlooks, genetics research, and data-driven breeding strategies.

The event also featured tours of regional farms and Angus Genetics Inc. presentations, focusing on research in fertility, methane efficiency, and phenotypic data collection. “A change in the beef industry is driven by all of these people right here in this room,” said Kelli Retallick-Riley, president of AGI.

The annual awards dinner honored outstanding breeders and industry contributors, while Certified Angus Beef hosted a Beef Quality Assurance training and culinary experiences.

The 2026 Angus Convention will be held in Louisville, Kentucky, from November 13–16, in conjunction with the North American International Livestock Exhibition.
