For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 46% very short, 29% short, 24% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 51% very short, 32% short, 16% adequate, and 1% surplus.
Winter wheat condition rated 18% very poor, 24% poor, 36% fair, 20% good, and 2% excellent. Winter wheat emerged was 89%, behind 98% last year and 94% for the five-year average.
Cotton harvested was 95%, ahead of 85% last year, and well ahead of 69% average.
This is the last weekly Crop Progress and Condition report for the 2022 growing season. We would like to extend our appreciation to the dedicated county FSA and extension staff who supplied the necessary information for these reports. For December through March, we will issue monthly reports. Weekly reports will begin Feb. 27 for the 2023 season.
