The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced new leadership for two important positions in Kansas. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins confirmed the appointments of state directors for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) and Rural Development.
David Schemm has been named the state executive director for the Kansas FSA. He previously held this role during an earlier administration and has also served as an agricultural advisor in the U.S. Senate. His background combines policy experience with firsthand knowledge of farming operations in western Kansas.
Gimmie Jo Jansonius has been appointed as the new state director for Kansas Rural Development. With a deep connection to agriculture as a sixth-generation rancher, she brings both tradition and innovation to the role. Her family operation includes a cow-calf herd, row crops, and a direct beef marketing business.
These roles are essential to managing and implementing USDA programs across the state. The FSA provides support for farmers through loans, disaster assistance, and conservation programs. Rural Development focuses on improving infrastructure, housing, business development, and community facilities in rural areas.
“These appointments ensure Kansas agriculture and rural communities continue to benefit from strong, knowledgeable leadership,” the USDA stated in the announcement.
Both appointees are expected to help guide state-level implementation of federal programs and policies, ensuring they align with the needs of local producers and rural families.
Their combined experience in both policy and production agriculture positions them to support Kansas communities effectively. These appointments reinforce the USDA’s commitment to building resilient food systems and thriving rural areas through experienced leadership.
