Wheat Buyers Tour Kansas Harvest Fields

By Scout Nelson

A group of South American millers visited Kansas on June 13 as part of a trade team mission organized by U.S. Wheat Associates (USW). The team represented milling associations from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Ecuador—countries that together account for 90 percent of U.S. wheat sales to South America.

Led by Claudia Gómez, USW’s regional marketing manager based in Chile, the trip aimed to deepen connections between international buyers and U.S. wheat producers. “This trip gives them information about how U.S. wheat farmers are working hard to produce the best wheat in the world,” said Gómez.

The millers explored U.S. wheat production in Kansas after earlier stops in Washington and Ohio. In Wichita, they met with grain industry experts and visited the Viterra terminal grain elevator to observe the efficiency of the U.S. grain supply chain. The team also received a market outlook from an executive at Grain Craft.

“We are here to solve the challenges they are facing, like combined cargoes for small mills, and to work together to create logistic synergies to increase business,” Gómez explained.

A highlight of the trip was visiting wheat harvest fields, where team members rode in combines and experienced farming life up close. They appreciated the hospitality and dedication of U.S. wheat producers, especially the emphasis on family farming, quality, and consistency.

“The team really appreciated the values and hospitality of farmers and enjoyed living the experience of farming as a family business and appreciated their dedication to quality and consistency,” Gómez said.

USW continues to build trust in U.S. wheat across more than 100 countries by promoting its value, reliability, and variety.
