Kansas Soybean Contest Invites Farmers for Friendly Competition

Kansas Soybean Contest Invites Farmers for Friendly Competition

The Kansas Soybean Association presents a golden opportunity for all soybean farmers in the state - The Kansas Soybean Yield Contest and Value Contest. This endeavor aims to capture the essence of the state's diverse growing conditions and foster healthy competition among participants.

Dividing the competition, there are 18 unique districts based on varying factors - region, tillage methods, and irrigation status. An added incentive for the no-till categories is provided by No-till on the Plains. While farmers have the liberty to enter various categories, it's essential to remember the one entry per field rule.

Fields must be spread over five acres and verified through the Farm Service Agency, GPS printout, or manual methods. A non-relative witness, ideally from Kansas State Research and Extension, is crucial for the harvest process. Entries must include official elevator-scale tickets, stating moisture percentage and foreign matter.

Winners stand to earn substantial rewards. The Kansas Soybean Commission has committed to monetary prizes for the top trio in each district: $300 for the winner, $200 for the first runner-up, and $100 for the second runner-up. There's an additional $1,000 for those who surpass the district winners and anyone who exceeds the 114.3 bushel-per-acre record.

A parallel contest is the Kansas Soybean Value Contest. Participants provide 20-ounce soybean samples, which undergo analysis by Ag Processing, Inc. to discern their value based on protein, oil, and other vital soybean attributes. Monetary awards await the top three entries in this contest too.

Contest participants will receive a T-shirt, with winners and a random participant winning a trip to the Commodity Classic in March. The contest results will be declared at the Kansas Soybean Expo on January 10, 2024.

A comprehensive guide detailing rules, regulations, and a digital entry form can be found at kansassoybeans.org/contests.
