The Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA) has announced that applications are now open for the FY26 Crop & Livestock Research Grant Program. This program is funded through the State Water Plan Fund with the purpose of supporting research that strengthens the agriculture industry while promoting responsible and sustainable resource use.
The grant program focuses on projects and organizations that align with the goals of the State Water Plan. Special attention will be given to proposals that improve drought-tolerant crop performance, reduce input needs such as water and nutrients, and support innovations that increase efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
Projects that help improve water quality, reduce nutrient runoff, or increase resilience during drought conditions are strongly encouraged.
This is a competitive, reimbursement-based grant program. Applications will be reviewed by a technical committee, whose recommendations will be sent to the Kansas Secretary of Agriculture for final funding decisions. The process ensures that awarded projects are both practical and impactful for Kansas agriculture.
Applications must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. on November 25, 2025. Those interested are encouraged to download and review the FY26 Request for Applications form available on the KDA website at agriculture.ks.gov/grants. Reading the guidelines carefully will help applicants understand eligibility and program expectations.
A total of $450,000 has been allocated for the FY26 funding cycle. Applicants may request up to $100,000 per project, with project durations allowed up to two years. Funding is intended to support meaningful research that can be applied across the agricultural community.
The Kansas Department of Agriculture remains committed to its vision of supporting long-term agricultural prosperity and statewide economic growth. The agency emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and leadership to help agricultural sectors succeed.
