The Kansas Farm Bureau (KFB) is set to continue its tradition of honoring long-standing family farms into 2025 with its annual recognition programs. The Century Farm program celebrates farms that have remained within the same family for at least 100 years and comprise a minimum of 80 acres. Additionally, the Sesquicentennial Farm program recognizes those farms that have been owned by the same family for 150 years or more.
"Kansas farmers and ranchers have a lot to be proud of," says Joe Newland, president of the Kansas Farm Bureau. "One thing we take pride in is our value in the traditions and strong family ties through generations of rural living. Kansas Farm Bureau is honored to celebrate those through the Century Farm and Sesquicentennial Farms programs."
To date, KFB has recognized 3,210 Century Farms and 132 Sesquicentennial Farms. These programs highlight the dedication and perseverance of Kansas farming families, showcasing their contributions to the state's agricultural legacy.
Applications for the 2025 Century and Sesquicentennial Farm programs are due by May 15. Interested parties can find more details on how to qualify and apply at their local county Farm Bureau offices or by visiting the KFB website at www.kfb.org/centuryfarm.
This opportunity provides family farms a chance to be acknowledged for their longstanding commitment to agriculture in Kansas, helping to preserve the rich heritage of rural communities and family-operated farms throughout the state.
These recognitions not only honor the legacy of family farms but also strengthen the bonds within the agricultural community, encouraging a continued commitment to farming across generations. The recognition of these farms serves as a testament to their historical significance and enduring presence in Kansas agriculture.
