The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will commence a survey of approximately 16,000 cattle operations across the country in July. This initiative aims to provide up-to-date information on U.S. cattle inventories, offering valuable insights for producers, packers, and government leaders.
The survey will cover a range of essential data points, including beef and dairy cattle inventories, calf crop, death loss, and cattle on feed information. Producers in Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, and neighboring states will have the opportunity to participate during the first two weeks of July. To ensure convenience, NASS offers multiple response options, including Internet, telephone, and mail.
Maintaining strict privacy protocols, NASS will aggregate the data at the state and national levels, protecting the anonymity of individual producers or operations. The July Cattle report, incorporating the survey findings, is scheduled for release on July 21, 2023. Access to this report, along with other NASS publications, can be found online at https://www.nass.usda.gov/publications/.
