Boil Water Advisory Issued for Reserve Public Water Supply in Kansas

Boil Water Advisory Issued for Reserve Public Water Supply in Kansas

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued a boil water advisory for the City of Reserve's public water supply system in Brown County. The advisory was put in place due to an equipment malfunction, which resulted in a loss of pressure and potential bacterial contamination.

Customers are advised to take the following precautions until further notice:

Boil water for one minute before drinking or using it for food preparation, discard ice cubes, and avoid using ice from automatic icemakers. If tap water appears dirty, it is recommended to run the water until it clears.

Dishes and food contact surfaces should be disinfected by soaking them in clean tap water with one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon. While bathing, water does not need to be boiled unless it is ingested, and close supervision of children is advised to prevent water ingestion.

The boil water advisory went into effect on July 11, 2023, and will continue until the issues that posed a risk of bacterial contamination are resolved. KDHE officials are responsible for lifting the advisory after conducting testing at a certified laboratory.

Given the equipment problem and resulting loss of pressure, it is extremely important for residents to adhere to these precautions to keep themselves safe and healthy. Stay updated with regular information from KDHE and the public water supplier until the advisory is lifted.
