Dry Season Showing Up in Kansas Crop Conditions



For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 43% very short, 33% short, 23% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 51% very short, 34% short, 15% adequate, and 0% surplus.

Winter wheat planted was 19%, behind 25% last year, and near 23% for the five-year average. Emerged was 3%, near 5% last year and 6% average.

Corn condition rated 27% very poor, 23% poor, 27% fair, 21% good, and 2% excellent. Corn dented was 95%, near 96% last year and 97% average. Mature was 72%, behind 78% last year, and near 76% average. Harvested was 35%, near 34% last year, and ahead of 29% average.

Soybean condition rated 20% very poor, 23% poor, 30% fair, 25% good, and 2% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 53%, near 54% last year, and equal to average. Harvested was 9%, ahead of 3% last year and 4% average.

Sorghum condition rated 23% very poor, 29% poor, 29% fair, 17% good, and 2% excellent. Sorghum coloring was 85%, behind 94% last year and 92% average. Mature was 34%, behind 51% last year and 39% average. Harvested was 4%, behind 10% last year, and near 6% average.

Cotton condition rated 7% very poor, 42% poor, 32% fair, 18% good, and 1% excellent. Cotton bolls opening was 61%, ahead of 53% last year and 47% average. Harvested was 2%, near 1% both last year and average.

Sunflowers harvested was 1%, near 3% last year, and equal to average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 42% very poor, 29% poor, 19% fair, 10% good, and 0% excellent.
