Engaged Kansas coalition expands with new partners

By Scout Nelson

Engaged Kansas, a coalition dedicated to fostering civic engagement and public service in Kansas, has welcomed three significant organizations into its fold: the Kansas Association of REALTORS (KAR), Kansas Medical Society (KMS), and United WE. This strategic expansion aims to enhance the coalition's efforts in encouraging Kansans to participate in local governance and public service roles.

Brenden Wirth, from the Kansas Farm Bureau, highlights the coalition as a central hub for sharing resources and tools designed to empower individuals to engage in civic activities and run for office. The inclusion of KAR, KMS, and United WE strengthens the coalition's reach and effectiveness in promoting political engagement and public service across the state.

With over 6,000 elected positions available in local school boards, county commissions, and municipal governments, Engaged Kansas serves as a vital resource for demystifying the public service process and developing community leaders.

Jon Fort of KAR emphasized the importance of equipping community-minded individuals with the necessary tools to succeed in public office, reflecting the organization's commitment to the state's progress.

KMS Executive Director Rachelle Colombo and United WE President and CEO Wendy Doyle echoed the sentiment, underscoring the critical role of public service in healthcare and addressing gender disparities in local leadership. Their support for Engaged Kansas underscores the collaborative effort to produce informed and effective policymakers.

Since its inception in 2023, EngagedKansas.org has been a pivotal platform for Kansas leaders seeking to contribute positively to their communities through nonpartisan and nonpolicy resources. This expanding coalition marks a significant step forward in building a more engaged, informed, and resilient Kansas through dedicated public service and leadership development.
