Kansas Farm Bureau endorses davids for first time

By Scout Nelson

For the first time, the Kansas Farm Bureau’s political action committee (PAC) has endorsed Democratic U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids in her bid for reelection to represent the 3rd District of northeast Kansas. The endorsement comes as Davids competes against Republican Prasanth Reddy and Libertarian Steve Roberts in the upcoming November election.

The PAC, known as VOTE FBF (Voters Organized to Elect Farm Bureau Friends), typically supports candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to agriculture. Farm Bureau president Joe Newland expressed confidence in Davids, citing her effort to build strong relationships with farmers and ranchers in the newly expanded 3rd District, which now includes Anderson, Franklin, and Miami counties — areas with significant agricultural activity.

“Rep. Davids has sought the input of farmers and ranchers as part of her decision-making process. I’m confident she’s the right choice for agriculture and look forward to her reelection,” said Newland.

Davids, who joined the House Agriculture Committee in 2022, expressed her commitment to representing the voices of Kansas farmers in Washington. “Kansas farmers and ranchers are the backbone of our state, and I’m committed to ensuring their voices are heard in Washington,” she said.

In response, Reddy criticized Davids for voting against a GOP-sponsored version of the Farm Bill in May, stating, “Sharice Davids betrayed Kansas farmers and ranchers by voting against advancing the Farm Bill.”

The 2018 Farm Bill, which expired in 2023, has been extended for one year to allow further negotiations. A bipartisan Farm Bill remains a priority for Davids and other agricultural leaders.

Since its creation in 1993, the Farm Bureau’s PAC has seen a 90% success rate in elections with endorsed candidates.
