For the week ending September 7, 2025, Kansas farmers reported 4.6 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Topsoil moisture levels were rated 3% very short, 16% short, 68% adequate, and 13% surplus, while subsoil moisture stood at 6% very short, 20% short, 65% adequate, and 9% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Winter wheat planting reached 1%, slightly below last year’s 4% and near the five-year average of 2%. Corn remained in good condition, with 3% very poor, 9% poor, 25% fair, 45% good, and 18% excellent.
Corn dented was reported at 85%, comparable to last year’s 86% and above the five-year average of 83%. Maturity stood at 44%, trailing last year’s 52% but above the five-year average of 42%, and 2% of corn had been harvested.
Soybeans continued to progress, rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 25% fair, 56% good, and 13% excellent. Pods were set on 92% of fields, matching last year and slightly above the five-year average of 91%, while 14% of leaves were dropping, behind last year’s 21%.
Sorghum was reported at 3% very poor, 7% poor, 25% fair, 47% good, and 18% excellent. Headed was 96%, with 63% coloring and 23% mature.
Cotton was in mostly good condition, with 0% very poor, 7% poor, 24% fair, 47% good, and 22% excellent, while bolls opening reached 17%.
Pasture and range conditions were rated 4% very poor, 10% poor, 27% fair, 50% good, and 9% excellent, reflecting generally favorable grazing conditions across the state.
