Kansas Grain and Hay Stocks Down from 2022



Kansas corn stocks in all positions on December 1, 2022 totaled 367 million bushels, down 25% from 2021, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Of the total, 155 million bushels are stored on farms, down 23% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 212 million bushels, are down 26% from last year.

Wheat stored in all positions totaled 243 million bushels, down 27% from a year ago. On-farm stocks of 13.0 million bushels are up 24% from 2021, and off-farm stocks of 230 million bushels are down 29% from last year.

Sorghum stored in all positions totaled 108 million bushels, down 44% from last year. On-farm stocks of 9.60 million bushels are down 54% and off farm holdings of 98.9 million bushels are down 43% from last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions totaled 96.9 million bushels, down 30% from last year. On-farm stocks of 28.0 million bushels are down 33% from a year ago, and off-farm stocks, at 68.9 million bushels, are down 29% from 2021.

Oats off-farm stocks totaled 472,000 bushels, up 19% from 2021.

Hay stocks on Kansas farms totaled 4.10 million tons on December 1, 2022, down 18% from a year earlier.

Grain storage capacity in Kansas totaled 1.59 billion bushels, unchanged bushels from December 1, 2021. Total grain storage capacity is comprised of 385 million bushels of on-farm storage, unchanged from last year, and 1.20 billion bushels of off-farm storage, unchanged bushels from 2021.
