KDA proposes changes to licensing framework

KDA proposes changes to licensing framework

By Scout Nelson

The Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA) will hold a public hearing at 10:00 a.m. on December 11, 2024. The hearing will address changes to administrative regulations related to live plant dealers. It will take place in person at the KDA office in Manhattan, Kansas, and online via video conferencing.

The proposed changes aim to revise the licensing framework under the Plant Pest and Agriculture Commodity Certification Act. Key updates include modifications to licensing procedures, voluntary inspections, and certification fees. These changes are intended to streamline processes and improve compliance for live plant dealers.

The KDA encourages participation in the hearing. Interested individuals can review the proposed regulation changes and the expanded notice of hearing on the KDA website. Those wishing to join via video conference must pre-register using the link provided in the notice. Written comments can be submitted in advance through the KDA’s public comment page or by mail.

Special accommodation is available for individuals with disabilities. Requests for accommodation or accessible copies of the regulations must be made at least two working days before the hearing.

For more information about the hearing, the proposed regulations, or accessibility requests, contact the Kansas Department of Agriculture. This hearing is an opportunity for stakeholders to engage and provide input on critical regulatory changes in the agriculture sector.
