The 2023 KLA/K-State Ranch Management Field Days will be held next month. This year will mark the 70th and 71st events, with each providing a high-quality, interactive program; a chance for fellowship with other cattlemen and women; and, of course, a beef dinner.
Mushrush Ranches will host the first field day August 10 at their Chase County ranch just west of Strong City. Program topics include a session discussing the family’s perspective on transition planning, given by Joe Mushrush; a walkthrough of their virtual fencing project powered by GPS collars led by Cole Mushrush and Tony Capizzo with The Nature Conservancy; and a tour from Chris Mushrush of cropland that has been converted to stockpiled forage for grazing.
Carpenter Cattle Company will host the August 17 field day at the intersection of Eagle Eye and Logan Co. Rd 150 in Logan County. The program will include a market update from Don Close, chief research analytics officer for Farm Credit’s Terrain Group; a presentation from Brian Bertelsen, vice president of field operations for U.S. Premium Beef; and a session on weed management after drought led by K-State Range Scientist Keith Harmoney.
