Water-related challenges of the Republican River basin are set to take center stage this year. The Republican River Compact Administration (RRCA) has announced its 2023 annual meeting on August 31, starting 10:00 a.m. Mountain Time, at Burlington Community and Education Center, Colorado.
Highlighting the significance of the gathering is the focus on water activities, especially compact compliance, that concern not just Colorado and Nebraska but primarily Kansas.
But before the main event, an 8:30 a.m. working session will be conducted to pave the way for the primary discussions. Residents and interested individuals are encouraged to join both sessions, ensuring a collective approach to problem-solving.
Rooted in history, the Republican River Compact was established in 1943. A symbol of unity and cooperation, Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska collaborated to promote the efficient use of the basin’s waters, curb potential disputes, and manage water resources better.
This main pact is overseen by three esteemed commissioners: Earl Lewis representing Kansas, Kevin Rein for Colorado, and Tom Riley from Nebraska.
