Conservation efforts in focus at upcoming meeting

By Scout Nelson

The State Conservation Commission (SCC) is scheduled to hold its regular meeting on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. via Zoom video conferencing. This meeting is open to anyone interested in participating and offers a valuable opportunity to engage in discussions regarding conservation efforts in Kansas.

The SCC is composed of five elected commissioners, two ex officio members representing the Kansas State University Agriculture Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service, and two appointed members from the Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. This diverse group collaborates to guide the conservation initiatives within the state.

The KDA Division of Conservation works closely with the SCC to protect and enhance Kansas' natural resources. Their efforts include the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, guidelines, and programs that assist local governments and individuals in conserving the state’s renewable resources. This ongoing collaboration emphasizes the importance of sustainable practices in agriculture and resource management.

The upcoming meeting will be a regularly scheduled board meeting, and it is open to the public, encouraging community participation. For those interested in attending, detailed information regarding how to access the meeting via Zoom can be obtained by contacting the KDA Division of Conservation. They can be reached at kda.doc@ks.gov or by phone at 785-564-6620

Involvement in such meetings is crucial for anyone concerned about the state’s environmental health and the management of its natural resources. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about current initiatives, voice their opinions, and contribute to the ongoing dialogue surrounding conservation practices in Kansas.

This meeting represents a proactive step towards fostering community engagement and awareness regarding the preservation of the state’s natural assets.
