Free workshops - secure Kansas livestock's future

Free workshops - secure Kansas livestock's future

By Scout Nelson

The Kansas Department of Agriculture's Division of Animal Health is gearing up for a series of important regional workshops throughout the state this summer. These sessions are designed to address pressing concerns in the livestock industry and will be beneficial for livestock owners, veterinarians, and county officials.

The workshops are structured into two main sessions. The afternoon session, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, is targeted at emergency management professionals and county officials. This session will cover various topics including the county's role in disease response, procedures for livestock truck rollovers, and strategies for animal disposal and sheltering.

The evening session, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, is tailored for veterinarians and livestock producers. The focus will be on animal disease traceability, secure food supply planning, and disease response strategies.

Participants will have the opportunity to join a networking dinner between the sessions, which is open to all attendees. This will provide a valuable chance for stakeholders to discuss the topics further and share insights.

The workshops are scheduled at several convenient locations across Kansas:

  • May 30 at the Agronomy Education Center, Kansas State University in Manhattan
  • June 11 at the Butler County Community (4-H) Building in El Dorado
  • June 12 at the Cleaver/Boileau/Burris Agriculture Hall, Fort Scott Community College
  • June 18 at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson
  • June 26 at the Western Kansas Child Advocacy Center in Scott City
  • June 27 at the Ford County 4-H Building in Dodge City
  • July 10 at the City Limits Convention Center in Colby
  • July 11 at the Ellis County Emergency Management Office in Hays

Attendance is free, but registration is required to ensure a spot in either session. Interested parties can register by calling 785-564-6608. These workshops are a critical part of Kansas's efforts to maintain a secure and healthy livestock sector.
