Kansas Cotton Boll Openings Nearly Complete



For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 57% very short, 32% short, 11% adequate, and 0% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 59% very short, 31% short, 10% adequate, and 0% surplus.

Winter wheat condition rated 18% very poor, 24% poor, 34% fair, 22% good, and 2% excellent. Winter wheat planted was 87%, near 90% last year and 88% for the five-year average. Emerged was 58%, behind 69% last year and 67% average.

Corn harvested was 90%, near 89% last year, and ahead of 83% average.

Soybeans harvested was 79%, ahead of 67% both last year and average.

Sorghum harvested was 68%, near 70% last year, but ahead of 57% average.

Cotton bolls opening was 95%, near 96% last year and 94% average. Harvested was 50%, well ahead of 10% last year and 12% average.

Sunflowers harvested was 65%, near 63% last year, and ahead of 53% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 51% very poor, 28% poor, 16% fair, 5% good, and 0% excellent.
