The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service has released the Kansas Crop Progress and Condition Report for the week ending August 31, 2025. Overall, crops are progressing at near-average levels, supported by adequate moisture across much of the state.
During the week, there were 3.9 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture was rated 4% very short, 16% short, 66% adequate, and 14% surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated 6% very short, 21% short, 65% adequate, and 8% surplus.
Corn Condition stood at 3% very poor, 10% poor, 28% fair, 44% good, and 15% excellent. Corn development showed 96% dough stage, near both last year’s 95% and the five-year average of 93%. Corn dented was at 72%, close to 74% last year and 71% average. Corn maturity was at 29%, slightly behind 34% last year but near the 26% average.
Soybean Condition rated 1% very poor, 6% poor, 27% fair, 55% good, and 11% excellent. Soybeans blooming reached 95%, matching last year's and close to the 96% average. Pod set was 85%, equal to last year and the average. Leaf drop was 7%, near both last year and the average of 10%.
Sorghum condition rated 4% very poor, 8% poor, 28% fair, 45% good, and 15% excellent. Sorghum heading reached 93%, near 92% last year and 91% average. Coloring was 49%, close to 51% last year and 46% average. Sorghum maturity stood at 12%, like 13% last year but well ahead of the 6% average.
Cotton Condition rated 1% very poor, 7% poor, 29% fair, 42% good, and 21% excellent. Boll's opening was 16%, behind 35% last year and the 26% average.
Pasture And Range Conditions rated 4% very poor, 9% poor, 25% fair, 50% good, and 12% excellent, reflecting mostly stable forage conditions.
Kansas crop development continues to move forward steadily as the fall harvest approaches.
