Kansas released its weekly crop progress and condition update for the week ending November 16, 2025. According to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, there were 6.9 days suitable for fieldwork, giving producers ample time to continue harvest and field operations. Soil conditions across the state remain steady, supporting fall crop development and final harvest activities.
Topsoil moisture supplies are rated 6% very short, 24% short, 67% adequate, and 3% surplus. Subsoil moisture levels are rated 7% very short, 21% short, 70% adequate, and 2% surplus. These numbers show that most fields have enough moisture for stable crops and soil health going into late fall.
Winter wheat conditions show a mixed but generally positive outlook. The crop rated 4% very poor, 6% poor, 34% fair, 48% good, and 8% excellent. Winter wheat planting reached 95%, slightly behind last year’s 99% and the five-year average of 98%. Emergence reached 85%, behind 90% last year but close to the 86% average.
Corn harvest reached 92%, behind last year’s 99% and the five-year average of 97%. The soybean harvest reached 91%, behind 98% last year and slightly below the 94% average. Sorghum harvest reached 77%, trailing 92% last year and the 91% average. Cotton’s harvest stood at 30%, well behind last year’s 66% and the five-year average of 59%. Sunflower harvest reached 74%, also behind last year’s 92% and the 90% average.
Pasture and range conditions remain stable heading into late fall. Ratings showed 5% very poor, 9% poor, 31% fair, 49% good, and 6% excellent. These numbers suggest that most grazing areas continue to hold strong conditions.
This weekly report highlights ongoing harvest progress and a winter wheat crop that continues to develop under mostly favorable moisture conditions.
As Kansas moves deeper into the fall season, fieldwork and monitoring remain important to ensure crops finish well, and fields are prepared for winter.
