By Scout Nelson

The Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA) has announced a public hearing on July 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. The hearing aims to discuss proposed changes to administrative regulations concerning livestock movement and public livestock markets.

The hearing will be held at the KDA office at 1320 Research Park Dr. in Manhattan and will also be accessible via video conferencing.

The KDA proposes revisions to two regulations, K.A.R. 9-7-1 and K.A.R. 9-7-14, which pertain to the movement of livestock within and through Kansas. The KDA plans to revoke and replace regulations under Article 10 relating to public livestock markets.

These changes aim to reflect current livestock industry practices, update requirements for public livestock markets and occasional livestock sales in Kansas and reorganize the regulations for better readability.

On the KDA website, copies of the proposed regulatory modifications and a more comprehensive notice of the public hearing are available. A video link will be sent to those who have pre-registered to join via video conference. written comments can be mailed to Ronda Hutton at Ronda Hutton, 1320 Research Park Dr., Manhattan, KS, 66502. or filed via the public comment webpage of the KDA.
