The Kansas Statistical Abstract 2023 has been released by the Institute for Policy & Social Research (IPSR) at the University of Kansas. This annual data compendium provides users with downloadable tables, maps, and graphs covering a wide range of topics about the state, including population, economy, climate, and agriculture.

According to Donna Ginther, IPSR director, “The Kansas Statistical Abstract is an invaluable resource for anyone seeking comprehensive data about Kansas.

We are proud to offer this service at no cost.”

Updated agriculture data shows a decline in the number of Kansas farms from 167,000 in 1920 to 55,500 in 2023, with the average farm size increasing to 807 acres. Crop yields for wheat, sorghum, corn, and soybeans saw a decline from 2021 to 2022, and Kansas experienced lower precipitation in 2023 compared to the 1991-2020 average.

The IPSR also serves as the lead agency for the Kansas State Data Center, which partners with the U.S. Census Bureau. Xan Wedel, senior research data engineer, emphasizes the importance of reliable data in combating misinformation and aiding in informed decision-making.

The KSA covers a variety of state, county, and city-level data topics, such as agriculture, crime, education, energy, housing, population, and transportation, making it a key resource for policymakers, businesses, and the public alike.
