USDA Invests $49.1 Million in Kansas Rural Water Projects

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced a significant investment of $49.1 million to bolster rural utilities in Kansas. Led by State Director Christy Davis, this initiative is set to facilitate major improvements in drinking water and wastewater management.

1. In Perry, a $6.4 million loan will fund extensive rehabilitation of water and wastewater systems. This includes upgrades to lines, lift station repairs, and the addition of backup generators, ensuring the city's water and sewage services remain efficient.

2. Mankato is set to see a $2. 225 million loan directed at rejuvenating its sewer collection system, addressing current shortcomings and enhancing the reliability of the system.

3. Neosho County's Rural Water District #4 will benefit from both a $7.843 million loan and a $3.015 million grant. This funding will assist in the construction of a pump station, a large storage tank, and the laying and replacement of several miles of lines, ensuring consistent water pressure for its customers.

4. The City of Girard has been allocated a combined amount of $16.693 million, through a loan and grant, to overhaul its water system. This will allow for the replacement of mains, the installation of new utilities, and the development of a water treatment facility, offering its residents a reliable water source.

5. The City of Humboldt is set to receive a combined $12.9875 million. This will be used to replace various components of the water distribution system and improve the water storage structures. A prior USDA grant supported the city in its initial development planning.
