The Republican River Compact Administration (RRCA) is set to host its annual meeting on August 28, 2024, at the Colby Event Center, located at 1200 South Franklin Street in Colby, Kansas.
Scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Central Time, this crucial meeting will also be livestreamed on the Kansas Department of Agriculture Division of Water Resources website for wider accessibility.
This year’s meeting will concentrate on pressing water-related issues within the Republican River basin, which spans across Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska. Topics of discussion will include compact compliance and various activities aimed at improving water management within the basin.
A working session will precede the main meeting at 8:30 a.m. at the same location, preparing the ground for the day’s discussions. Both the working session and the annual meeting are open to the public, encouraging community involvement and transparency in the proceedings.
The Republican River Compact, established in 1943, serves as a collaborative agreement between Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska. It aims to equitably divide the basin’s waters, remove potential controversies, and foster joint action and interstate cooperation in water usage and flood control.
The RRCA comprises three commissioners: Earl Lewis from Kansas, Jason Ullmann from Colorado, and Jesse Bradley from Nebraska.
For those interested in more details or with queries about the meeting, Chris Beightel from the Kansas Department of Agriculture can be contacted via email or phone.
Further information, including the meeting's agenda and the livestream link, is available on the RRCA page on the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s website. This meeting underscores the ongoing commitment to effective water resource management in one of the country's key agricultural regions.
