The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Kansas, under State Director Christy Davis, has announced a significant investment totaling $418,318 in grants. This funding is dedicated to expanding the markets for agricultural producers and strengthening food and agriculture supply chains in rural Kansas, signifying a commitment to the state's small towns and rural communities.
Christy Davis highlights the importance of these investments in catalyzing a new future for Kansas's small towns, providing Kansans with more local food options and enhancing the market reach for rural entrepreneurs. This announcement forms part of a broader national initiative that includes investments in 36 other states and Puerto Rico.
In Kansas, a $220,818 grant is allocated to Elm Creek Beef to double their production of value-added products. This grant also supports targeted marketing strategies to grow and diversify their customer base, involving funds for marketing, labor, and raw agricultural commodities. This project, based in Hoyt, is expected to create three new jobs.
Bow Creek Ranch LLC is set to receive a $192,500 grant. This funding will facilitate the expansion of their packaged and frozen yak meat product line, allowing them to diversify into new markets and increase sales.
The grant covers various operational costs including marketing, travel, labor, and processing. This Lenora-based business anticipates the creation of two part-time jobs because of this project.
