Kansas feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, reported significant updates in their cattle inventory and market activities for November, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
As of November 1, the total number of cattle on feed in these Kansas feedlots was 2.42 million, reflecting a 4% decrease compared to the same period last year.
In October, placements in Kansas feedlots totaled 485,000 head, representing a 10% increase compared to October 2023. This rise indicates robust movement in cattle placements during the month.
Fed cattle marketings for October reached 430,000 head, up 5% from the previous year, showcasing a strong market performance in terms of sales and movement.
Other disappearances, which account for factors such as deaths or sales outside of fed cattle markets, remained steady at 10,000 head for October, unchanged from the previous year.
These figures highlight the shifting dynamics within Kansas feedlots, showing an increase in placements and marketings despite an overall decline in inventory. The data reflects evolving trends in livestock management and market activities, providing valuable insights into the cattle industry.
