The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service reported that for the week ending November 24, 2024, fieldwork was limited to 3.3 days due to widespread moisture conditions.
Moisture Levels
Topsoil moisture was rated at 4% very short, 13% short, 72% adequate, and 11% surplus. Subsoil moisture followed a similar trend, with ratings of 7% very short, 27% short, 62% adequate, and 4% surplus.
Winter Wheat Conditions
Winter wheat conditions were reported as 3% very poor, 9% poor, 33% fair, 46% good, and 9% excellent. Emergence reached 96%, surpassing the five-year average of 90% and remaining close to last year’s 92%.
Harvest Progress
Sorghum harvest reached 96%, consistent with both last year and the five-year average. Cotton harvest was at 71%, slightly behind last year’s 78% but near the five-year average of 68%. The sunflower harvest was 93% complete, aligning closely with last year’s 91% and the five-year average of 94%.
Pasture and Range Conditions
Pasture and range conditions were rated 12% very poor, 22% poor, 43% fair, 21% good, and 2% excellent, reflecting ongoing challenges for grazing lands.
