Six Kansas couples win farming & community service awards

By Scout Nelson

In a proud tradition nearly 100 years old, Kansas' agricultural community is set to honor six exemplary couples for their outstanding contributions to farming, environmental stewardship, and community service.

The 2023 Kansas Master Farmers and Master Farm Homemakers awards ceremony, a collaborative effort by K-State Research and Extension and Kansas Farmer Magazine, shines a spotlight on the dedication and achievements of these distinguished individuals.

Scheduled for March 22 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Manhattan, Kansas, this event underscores the vital role of agriculture in the state and celebrates the individuals who lead by example.

This year's honorees, drawn from across the state, represent the diverse and rich tapestry of Kansas agriculture:

Tim and Robyn Raile of Cheyenne County, notable for their dedication to both agriculture and community engagement within the Sunflower Extension District.

Conrad and Donna Trost from Republic County, who have made significant contributions to farming innovation and community service in the River Valley Extension District.

Andrea and Hugo DeJesus, residents of Riley County, recognized for their agricultural leadership and community welfare initiatives.

Douglas and Stacey Keas of Rooks County, acknowledged for their excellence in agriculture and active participation in community projects.

Ken and Patricia Stielow from Russell County, part of the Midway Extension District, celebrated for their innovative farming techniques and commitment to community development.

Kenton and Deb, Michael and Ladonne Weltmer of Smith County, in the Post Rock Extension District, honored for their collaborative efforts in advancing agriculture and community service.

These couples exemplify the spirit of Kansas farming through their commitment to enhancing agricultural practices, promoting environmental stewardship, and fostering community well-being.

Their recognition at the upcoming awards banquet is not just a celebration of their individual accomplishments but also a testament to the enduring values that have sustained Kansas agriculture for generations.

Attendees are encouraged to make their dinner reservations by March 10, ensuring a spot at this prestigious event by contacting Cheryl Christian at 785-532-5820 or cchristi@ksu.edu.

It's an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of these remarkable couples and to draw inspiration from their contributions to the agricultural community and beyond.
